Healthy eating in Healthcare
The nutritional requirements of many patients or elderly and infirm customers can seem to contradict our Healthwise principles. For example, providing a low fat, low sugar diet for someone in hospital might not provide the calorific content necessary for the protein in their diet to build muscle and aid their recovery.
Of course, for patients with special dietary requirements we have developed menus which include low salt, low fibre and gluten-free options. We ensure that all of our food service employees at the healthcare sites we operate are well trained in basic nutrition, special diets and allergies and are fully briefed to meet the requirements of these customers.
We try to limit the amount of chocolate eaten by patients, particularly children, and offer more nutritious products instead, as well as encouraging them to drink more water and, where appropriate, 100% fruit juice.
Prepared meals
