Salt is closely linked to water balance and blood pressure control and should not be eliminated from the diet. However, too much salt in your diet increases your risk of developing high blood pressure, which can lead to heart disease and stroke.
It is recommended that adults consume no more than 6g of salt per day and children even less.
You can reduce the salt in your diet by following a few simple steps:
Use less when cooking
Reduce the amount of salt you use at the table
Check food labels and choose products that are lower in salt
At Sodexo we have made steps to reduce the amount of salt in our food. We now:
Purchase a range of sandwiches made using lower salt bread
Buy reduced salt and sugar baked beans
Use less salt in cooking and opt for other flavourings instead
Do not routinely place salt cellars on dining tables
Replace the butter in our recipes with unsalted butter
