Healthwise within Sodexo

Sodexo is committed to sustainability and measures the impact of the company's actions worldwide.

Committed to a healthier future

We have a strategy called the Better Tomorrow Plan, which focuses on 14 key commitments across health, nutrition and wellness, as well as local communities and the environment. Go to our corporate website for more info.

As part of our Healthwise initiative we:

  • Work with suppliers to improve the availability of products that contribute to the health and well-being of the people we serve

  • Work with suppliers to monitor hydrogenated vegetable oils, artificial additives and preservatives to eliminate from our products where possible. In the last 18 months we have reduced the amount of hydrogenated vegetable oils by 72%

  • Are focused on reducing levels of saturated fat, sugar, salt and calorie value

  • Purchase the healthier option when the cost and quality of products is similar

Here are some of the successes we've achieved so far:

  • We have changed our standard cooking oil to the healthier rapeseed oil

  • Our main supplier of bakery ingredients and frozen bakery products is working with us to remove all hydrogenated fats from its product range

  • We have worked with our suppliers of added value meat products to reduce sodium levels well within the specified criteria and fat levels to less than 10g in every 100g. We have also worked to remove monosodium glutamate (MSG) from our manufactured products. Genetically modified ingredients or mechanically recovered meat are not permitted in any of our products

  • We are the first school meals provider to achieve Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification across schools in England and Wales, guaranteeing that their fish is sustainably sourced

  • We were the first organisation to gain Red Tractor accreditation across our business, which means we are certified to supply Red Tractor approved meat, dairy, and fresh and frozen produce
