Procurement
Sodexo has close links with all its suppliers, working in partnership with them to ensure high quality products are available. As part of our Healthwise initiative a number of policies have been introduced.
We work jointly with our suppliers to improve the availability of products that contribute to the health and well-being of the people we serve, without our customers or establishments necessarily being aware of the change and without it affecting the quality of the products we use.
Where the cost and quality of the product is equivalent we will purchase the product which is healthiest eg it has less salt, lower saturated fat.
We are in regular dialogue with some 75 of our key suppliers to monitor the following:
. hydrogenated vegetable oils
. salt
. artificial additives and preservatives
. additional initiatives to reduce saturated fat, sugar and calorie value
Where possible we are proactively encouraging the reduction of all these - as can be achieved within the limits of the food production process, without affecting the essential characteristics, palatability or inherent safety of the food.
Specifically,
. We have moved our standard cooking oil to a healthier 100% rapeseed oil.
. Our key supplier of bakery ingredients and frozen bakery products is working with us to remove all hydrogenated fats from its entire manufactured product range.
. Sodexo has worked closely with its key supplier of added value meat products and has made further improvements to the range. These include fat levels reduced to less than 10g/100g and sodium levels well within specified criteria. No GM Ingredients, no mechanically recovered meat and no MSG.
